Northwood Academy Robotics Clubs’ 2 teams, The Table Turners and the Charger Champs won 1st place in all categories in the SCISA State Robotics competition on Thursday! The Table Turners, all 4th graders, won 1st place in the Intermediate Division and the Charger Champs, 4th & 5th graders, won 1st place in the Advanced Division! Way to go!!
THE LION KING
Our XALT team put on an incredible performance of The Lion King for their Spring production!! They worked hard memorizing their lines, painting the different backdrops, and putting together all of the props to bring each scene to life. WELL DONE!!

Student government officers welcomed the AdvancED Accreditation External Review Team to Northwood Academy.
The results are in! Based on our scores, Northwood Academy is ranked among the top AdvancED accredited schools – public and private. Our scores reflect input from team observations, hundreds of stakeholder interviews, surveys, digital literacy, resource utilization, classroom observations, program and policy reviews, and internal evidence submitted.
Our very own Elysa Wesolek announced on Monday that she has signed to play basketball with the South Carolina Gamecocks! She is rated as a three-star recruit and the 47th best forward in her class by ESPN. Early in the signing period, she committed to Western Kentucky. She ended up reopening her recruitment, and after an official visit to South Carolina, decided to make the switch. We are so PROUD of you Elysa! ⚡🏀
Our 8th grade class did an incredible job taking us on a journey through American History! Each year, the students spend weeks preparing, building sets, creating costumes and memorizing lines for the big presentation. Well done students!
MARCH MISSIONS MONTH
Our Pre-School students participated in their very own Walk for Water! They walked with their buckets, collected some polluted water, then took it back to the filtration system that Water Missions set up and watched as it was made into clean, drinking water! What an amazing experience for the young world-changers!
Junior Rick Newman won 2nd place in High School Boys Humorous Oral Interpretation at the SCISA State Literary Meet on March 7 at Charleston Southern University. Rick read a piece by newspaper columnist Dave Barry. Congratulations, Rick! #NAchargers
SCISA SGA Convention
Our student leaders had the chance to attend the SCISA High School Student Government Spring Convention in Myrtle Beach! Throughout the day, the students are taught how to better lead through participatory leadership experiences. What an incredible opportunity!

The daffodils in our 'Joe Engel Memorial Garden' are beginning to bloom! Some of the Senior class took some time out of their day to visit and admire the beautiful flowers that honor the 1.5 million children who perished in the Holocaust.
Our 6th grade class had an amazing experience on their trip to Space Camp this year! They returned with many stories to tell and a lot of knowledge gained about all things space!
SHAKESPEARE FESTIVAL 2018
The Senior class traveled to the Georgetown Shakespeare Festival on February 2, 2018 to enjoy the American Shakespeare Center's presentation of Macbeth. They were able to pose for a photo in front of the set. What an amazing opportunity!
CONGRATS to our Lady Chargers — over the weekend, they won the Palmetto division title at the Carolina Invitational with a 40-37 victory over Lower Richland. Carrington Simpson was named division MVP, Ty Bostick was named to all-tourney, and Elysa Wesolek had a game high of 18 points as she returned to action after missing the first two games of the tournament due to an ankle injury.
OUTREACH WEEK — CHARLESTON HOPE
Our Upper and Lower School students had an incredible afternoon serving alongside Charleston Hope with some of our staff, students, as well as our Northwood Church staff and church family at Burns Elementary School for the 2017 Adopt-a-Classroom! Thanks to you all (between the school and church combined) we completely sponsored every classroom at Burns, as well as another Title 1 school.
Being able to talk these students for a bit today, learn their names, and to just see their faces as they opened their gift was such a blessing. God is so good! We are so excited to keep partnering with Charleston Hope in the future as they continue to do amazing work here in Charleston and throughout our country.
CHRISTMAS INTELLIGENCE KIDS
Our Lower School Students performed their Christmas Production for friends, family and fellow classmates! They each did an incredible job. Through their acting, singing, and dancing, they helped remind us the real reason for the season — JESUS!
Educational Leadership Award

Congratulations to our Lady Chargers 7th Grade Volleyball Team on a 10-0 season! They battled Palmetto Christian Academy in an unbelievable match for the win to clinch the Lowcountry Volleyball League 7C Tournament Championship! Go Lady Chargers!!
What an INCREDIBLE Homecoming week! The students went all out in dressing up for theme days, worked hard on building their floats and practicing their chants. Our football team played a great game against Hilton Head Prep. and came up with the win.

We are excited about the addition of our AP Computer Science Class this year. In 2016, only 32 schools in SC had AP Computer Science classes — we are proud to now be adding to that statistic!

NEW SCHOOL YEAR — NEW CAMPUS
There were a lot of big smiles around the new Lower School campus following the ribbon cutting ceremony! The building is complete, the classrooms are set up, and each are ready for students. Our teachers are very excited to kick off the school year this month!

'COUNTDOWN TO CARNES'
Our Lower School students are ready for their big move to the brand new Carnes Campus! They are in their week of lasts at the Otranto Campus, and though many memories have been made here, they are looking forward to making new ones in their BRAND NEW space! ⚡
'XALT SPRING PERFORMANCE'
We would like to extend a "JOB WELL DONE" to our XALT team! They worked so hard to prepare their lines, saxophone solos, and music in order to tell the story of a young girl in the Holocaust in an important performance of "The Diary of Anne Frank". Though the topic was heavy, the reminder was strong - never forget, so that history like this may never be repeated!
Our Lower School Robotics Club took part in their first ever Robotics competition. They excelled in the art of teamwork and worked together to overcome the obstacles they faced when presenting their robot. They took home a 1st Place title in the 'Meet and Greet' division! We are so proud of our Northwood Academy 'Master Builders'!! ⚡

Our Varsity Girls Basketball Team travelled to the State House to be recognized for their accomplishment in winning the State Championship! They were so grateful for this incredible opportunity!⚡️

'A JOURNEY THROUGH AMERICAN HISTORY'
Each year, our 8th Grade class participates in a project called 'A Journey through American History', where they portray our founding fathers, inventors, writers, scientists, and others who have contributed to the growth of our nation! They spent many weeks studying, building, writing, and rehearsing. They proudly presented their work to our Lower School students, family and friends. GREAT JOB!

ANNUAL GOLF TOURNAMENT
The Athletic Booster Club Annual Golf Tournament has been set for Friday, May 26th at Crowfield Country Club. This will be a shotgun start at 1:00 pm. Lunch will be served and the driving range will open at 12:00 pm for our tournament.

Our Varsity Girls Basketball Team defeated First Baptist with a score 50 - 38 to claim the State Title! This is their 3rd State Championship in a row, making this the first 3-peat in Northwood Academy history. We are so proud of this accomplishment!!! GO CHARGERS!
MIDDLE SCHOOL FUN NIGHT
Our Senior Class had a great time hosting our Middle School classes for a night of fun, fellowship, food and games at their annual Middle School Fun Night! This fundraiser not only gives them an opportunity to bond with students, but helps them make their Senior Trip financially possible. Thank you to all who supported!

SCISA SPELLING BEE
Northwood Academy participated in the SCISA Regional Spelling Bee January 25th. Christian Herrman (7th grade) placed 3rd in his grade level. The students were competing against nine other schools with hundreds of participants. We C-O-N-G-R-A-T-U-L-A-T-E our top spellers!
Construction on the new Lower School portion of the campus has been on schedule, and we are starting to see our "One Campus" vision coming to fruition! The brick is going up on the exterior of the buildings, windows are being installed, and the interior walls are in place. We are so excited for the start of the 2017-2018 school year!
SPIRITUAL EMPHASIS WEEK
Our Upper School students have kicked off Spiritual Emphasis week! Each year, our student body participates in a week of morning chapels where they gather together to worship, and are challenged by the word. This year, we are blessed to have Paul Garrido from Summerbrook Church encouraging us to pray bold prayers and always pray with expectation!
"FOUR PERFECT PEBBLES"
We were so honored to have Mrs. Marion Blumenthal Lazan come to speak at our Upper School Assembly. She left us with a sense of purpose and understanding of how good can come from such evil as she shared her story of courage, hope and the will to survive during the holocaust. Each of our students will receive a signed copy of her memoir "Four Perfect Pebbles" thanks to a generous grant from the South Carolina Council on the Holocaust. A special thank you to Mrs. Deveaux who made this possible, and to our talented students Candace Herrman and Makenna Bryant for presenting an interpretive dance to honor Marion and her story.
It's FOOTBALL season! Our Northwood Chargers will be facing North Charleston High School in the Sertoma Football Classic in 2 quarters of action on Thursday, August 10th at Johnson Hagood Stadium. Gates open at 4pm with kick-off at 5pm. Come dressed in your best Hawaiian attire to support our Chargers!
Northwood Academy cheerleaders are selling general admission tickets for $12. Each ticket is good for one night of play (August 10th or 11th). Box tickets cost $50 for one night, include 4th floor air conditioned seating at the 50 yard line, a buffet, and soft drinks.
